I saw MTG's production of Jesus Christ Superstar last night. It was good. I've always liked JCS; as [livejournal.com profile] zacheiss points out, the source material (both bible and music) is good.

I think I'd like it even devoid of historical and religious context. It's a flowing series of captivating events heading to an inevitable conclusion. As you are drawn into the characters, a static system of motivations and beliefs emerges. Everyone makes sense. It goes beyond right and wrong; people are just acting as they are.

Agreed indeed. And it doesn't hurt that Andrew Lloyd Webber is damn good. I find "Heysanna, Hosanna" to be really cool, but there are so many great tunes and wonderful Time Rice lyrics.
