Boss resigned

Late yesterday afternoon my group at worked received announcement of an important meeting early this morning with no agenda. Those are always fun: either it is bad news or someone has an over inflated idea of what is important. In this case it was bad news; my boss announced he had accepted another position and would be leaving shortly before the end of the month.

It was more emotional than I expected. I've enjoyed working with him; apparently announcing the resignation was hard for him. Talking about it with him later was hard for both of us.

I don't know what the effects of this are for me, for what I want to do or for what/where the best place to do it is. The organization seems to have a collective lack of pants about his departure. No one is positioned to take his job. One thing I know for sure is that I don't want it.
